Espresso Energy Bites and a Jamie Eason Protein Powder Review

A couple of weeks ago I was asked if I would like the chance to test and review Jamie Eason’s Lean Body for Her Whey Protein Isolate powder. Are you kidding me? Hell yeah! I am a HUGE fan of Jamie Eason! I’m sure you all know her, especially from her LiveFit program.

I was at my mom’s at the time and when I returned home, the package was on my doorstep – a great welcome home present.

I believe in nourishing your body right, and when I train hard, I know to recover properly I need a good post workout meal. During strength training we are causing trauma or injury of the cellular proteins in muscle. This prompts cells to begin a cascade of events leading to muscle repair and growth. In order to help our muscles repair, we must give them proper nutrition, especially post workout. The best time for your post workout meal is 15-30 minutes after exercise. For me, the most convenient way to feed my muscles within that short window of time is a protein shake.

What I love about this product is that they use natural ingredients. No fluff or fillers. No artificial junk…Cross-Flow Micro Ultra filtered Whey Protein Isolate, Sunflower Oil, Calcium Caseinate, Inulin (Chicory Root), Organic Cane Sugar, Natural Flavors, Xanthan Gum, Sea Salt, Monkfruit Extract, and it packs a whopping 25 grams of protein in one serving!  The powder mixes well and both flavors taste great! When you open the bag of vanilla, you’ll swear you smell cake! Labrada Nutrition has been around for years, I first discovered the Lean Body for Her line back in 2003. (not giving my age away am I?)

You noticed I called this product a “supplement”.  I use protein powders strictly as a training supplement for use after my workouts. If I’m training for a particular goal, such as muscle building, I may add extra powders to meals in the form of protein balls or shakes to get in extra protein and calories. A protein powder should not take the place of real food, and a whole food meal should be eaten about an hour or so after your post workout shake.

I have been using this product almost daily and wanted to share a couple of ways that I used the powder. The first is a post-workout recovery shake. It contained:

½ cup water, 1 scoop of chocolate powder, a handful of frozen blueberries and ½ of a banana. Mix well in a blender. Delish!

The second recipe is for Espresso Energy Bites. Oh, they are sooooo good!

espresso protein balls

  • ¼ cup espresso beans (next time I’ll increase to 1/3 cup)
  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 6 tablespoons Natural Peanut Butter (room temp)
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder (I used Jamie Eason Lean Body for Her Protein Powder) this equals ¼ cup.

Add oats and espresso beans into a blender and pulse until a medium fine texture. Pour into a bowl and add all other ingredients. Mix very well – it’s best to use your hands. Form into 10 balls. I used a melon scooper to keep the size consistent.

Optional: You can add in other flavors and ingredients such as chia seeds, dried cherries, or extracts!

Oh, and take a look at the awesome shaker! It has a carrying cup for your protein powder that fits into the bottom of the shaker. Add water into the cup, snap on lid and you can mix your shake on the go!

You can find more information and order Jamie’s powder at the Labrada online store as well as Bodybuilding.com

These look great. I would make mine without the coffee beans though as I would get too jittery.
