From time to time I get asked to review snack products. Most of these offers get turned down because of their ingredient list. I’m very picky about the snacks I choose. I try to keep as much junk as possible out of my food, including snacks.
I believe that if you are eating good whole foods the majority of the time, then it’s ok to fit in a treat every once in a while. Living healthy is not about deprivation, it’s about moderation. It’s about being smart about your choices. It’s about feeling good. I like the motto “Eat like crap, feel like crap” because it pretty much says it all.
So how do you fit store bought snacks into a fit and healthy lifestyle? You read the ingredient list. If you can’t pronounce the ingredients, don’t eat it. If the ingredient list is longer than your arm, don’t eat it. Choose snacks from reputable companies the use organic, non-GMO ingredients in their products.
For example – The Better Chip Co. has great tortilla chips. Their chips are made with organic, non-gmo all natural ingredients. No preservatives, no dyes, no junk. Check the label of one of my favorite flavors, The Jalapeño Chip.
And the best part – I didn’t have to go into the kitchen and make my own chip. To be honest, I just don’t have time and most of the time, I just don’t want to.
So stop feeling guilty because you “broke down” and had a few chips! There is room in your diet for some indulgences – just choose good products.
Here are some tips for healthier snacking:
Check your ingredient list.
Check for saturated fat and the type of fat used (see tip 1.)
Watch your portion sizes. Don’t eat the whole bag!
Enjoy without the guilt!

This post was sponsored by The Better Chip Company, but I honestly like and approve of their chips.
